The Bragg Creek to Kananaskis segment of the Trans Canada Trail, along West Bragg Creek Road is off to a fantastic start. Phase 1 is complete and it is wonderful to already see so many people using it. Our fitness area is also complete, thanks to the donation from Mountain Woods Health Services and the generous contribution from Rick and Donna Sukovieff, who allowed us to use land adjacent to the trail. Check it out!
We are carrying out a campaign to raise the final dollars to construct Phases 2 & 3 in the very near future. Our target is $150,000 by spring 2017, in time for us to construct phases 2&3 in the spring & summer of 2017. Please spread the word and encourage friends, family and work colleagues to check out this fund-raiser on our website. Help support the Trans Canada Trail; individuals, groups and companies are encouraged to buy a ‘m’ or ‘Km’ of trail. Donations make a great Christmas gift or memorial to a loved one. Donors will be recognized on our website, on a plaque next to the trail and in our newsletter/social media.
In the fall of 2015, the Greater Bragg Creek Trails Association completed the first phase of the Bragg Creek Trans Canada Trail project at a cost of $485,500. The 2.5 km trail is one of three phases that will connect the Hamlet of Bragg Creek with the West Bragg Creek Trail head. Once complete this project will provide trail lovers of all types with access to the Kananaskis trails and be a key link in the Trans Canada Trail.
Donate and help us reach the $150,000 campaign goal by June 1, 2017 to finish the final 5 km. Be a part of a national legacy!!

This project is recognized as a critical link for the TransCanada Trail (TCT) to provide access between the communities of Calgary, Cochrane, Redwood, Bragg Creek and onto Canmore and Banff. There currently is a gap between West Bragg Creek Kananaskis, where the TCT ends, and the trail that exists from the Hamlet of Bragg Creek to Redwood. This proposed project is significant because it contributes to filling the gap between Kananaskis and Calgary.
The West Bragg Creek Trail project requires the construction of 7.5 km of trail connecting the Hamlet of Bragg Creek to Kananaskis Country. The plan is to construct this trail in 3 phases by 2017, the 150th anniversary of Canada and target completion date for the TransCanada Trail. Phases 2 & 3 are a total of 5 km in length and are estimated to cost $ 1.2 million. The majority of the West Bragg Trail is to be constructed within the road right of way, making land issues minimal.
Financial commitments have been provided by TransCanada Trail, the Province of Alberta, Rocky View County, Alberta TrailNet and donors with the Greater Bragg Creek Trails Association (GBCTA). However additional financial support is being requested from Rocky View County and is critical to the success of this tremendous community initiative. Bragg Creek is known as the Gateway to Kananaskis and Trail head community. This project reinforces that community spirit, providing a wonderful amenity, which will benefit the health and welfare of Albertans, local economies, tourism and recreation.
