Trans Canada Trail Construction 2017

Trans-Canada Trail (TCT) Phases 2 and 3 In 2016, the Greater Bragg Creek Trails Association (GBCTA) completed phase 1 of the section of the TCT that will link the hamlet of Bragg Creek with trails in Kananaskis Country. The GBCTA is pleased to announce that, on March 24, we and Rocky View County signed Construction and Maintenance/Operation Agreements for phases 2 and 3. There have been a huge number of permits and approvals required for various aspects of the creation of this trail. Most recently, on March 17, GBCTA received an Alberta Environment Water Act Approval for wetland disturbance since portions of the trail will cross marshland.  Clearing of trees and shrubs from the 5 km trail alignment was completed from March 25-31 by Bragg Creek Excavating.  Tread construction will commence in May, once ground conditions and weather are favourable. West Bragg Creek Trails 2016 Summary

In 2016, The Greater Bragg Creek Trails Association focused on upgrading existing trails, adding new winter trails and enhancing the visitor experience at the West Bragg Creek trail network. Volunteers contributed over 8,000 hours of work and $150,000 of donations were spent on dozens of projects to construct, upgrade and maintain the West Bragg Creek trail network. Significant investments and actions by Alberta Parks/ Government of Alberta resulted in a number of important enhancements to the trail network and planning for even larger improvements for next year. All-Season Trails (Hiking, Biking, Equestrian and Snowshoeing) 1. A sustainable, all-season tread was constructed on 1.5 km of Snowshoe Hare (west) trail. This included some trail re-routes, plus drainage and tread reconstruction. 2. Trail repairs and ongoing maintenance was completed at 15 sites on Braggin Rights, Long Distance, Boundary Ridge, Ranger Summit and Strange Brew trails. 3. A 300 [...]

$21,300!!! We are truly humbled by your generosity. Thank you so very much! With your incredible support and the funds from the grant, plans are now underway for the second grooming truck; we will keep you posted as to our progress and any other updates. The forecast is still for snow towards the end of the week, so with any luck we can repay your extreme generosity with some fabulous corduroy and tracks!! And for those last minute people on your list - don't forget the trail map buffs for Christmas (pick them up at the Bragg Creek Shell Station)!!
