We are happy to officially notify you that Alberta Parks is upgrading West Bragg Creek Provincial Recreation Area. The parking lot will be expanded and trailhead amenities will be enhanced to address site issues. These upgrades are intended to reduce parking lot congestion and user conflict, create safe emergency access, improve the all-season trailhead experience for a variety of users, help maintain the trail system, and benefit local economic development. Upgrades include: Parking lot expansion and paving with a total capacity of 485 including: 475 public parking stalls Eight pull-through stalls in a separate equestrian parking area Two designated bus stalls Designated emergency lane Perimeter trail for easy access to the surrounding trailheads Enhanced trailhead amenities including: Signage and kiosks Benches Designated meeting locations Three washrooms (four vault toilet stalls/washroom) Waste and recycling receptacles Two 10x10 foot designated sites for [...]
Trans-Canada Trail (TCT) Phases 2 and 3 In 2016, the Greater Bragg Creek Trails Association (GBCTA) completed phase 1 of the section of the TCT that will link the hamlet of Bragg Creek with trails in Kananaskis Country. The GBCTA is pleased to announce that, on March 24, we and Rocky View County signed Construction and Maintenance/Operation Agreements for phases 2 and 3. There have been a huge number of permits and approvals required for various aspects of the creation of this trail. Most recently, on March 17, GBCTA received an Alberta Environment Water Act Approval for wetland disturbance since portions of the trail will cross marshland. Clearing of trees and shrubs from the 5 km trail alignment was completed from March 25-31 by Bragg Creek Excavating. In 2016, The Greater Bragg Creek Trails Association focused on upgrading existing trails, adding new winter trails and enhancing the visitor experience at the West Bragg Creek trail network. Volunteers contributed over 8,000 hours of work and $150,000 of donations were spent on dozens of projects to construct, upgrade and maintain the West Bragg Creek trail network. Significant investments and actions by Alberta Parks/ Government of Alberta resulted in a number of important enhancements to the trail network and planning for even larger improvements for next year. All-Season Trails (Hiking, Biking, Equestrian and Snowshoeing) 1. A sustainable, all-season tread was constructed on 1.5 km of Snowshoe Hare (west) trail. This included some trail re-routes, plus drainage and tread reconstruction. 2.
