Greater Bragg Creek Trails Association (GBCTA) Proposal and Questionnaire
Paving of the West Bragg Creek TransCanada Trail
Officially known as “The Great Trail (TGT)”

GBCTA Proposal:

The Greater Bragg Creek Trails Association (GBCTA) is proposing to pave the TGT for 2.5 km from Bracken Road in the Hamlet of Bragg Creek going west to RR52 in Rocky View County (RVC). This popular section of the TGT is used by approximately 12,000 trail users per year based on trail counter data.

The benefits of paving the TGT are to improve public access and safety and minimize the potential risk of traffic/pedestrian accidents on the adjacent West Bragg Creek roadway.  Currently narrow tired cyclists cannot  use the gravel trail  and other potential trail users also choose to use the narrow adjacent paved road shoulder instead of the TGT.  The paving proposal would also provide a smooth tread surface for trail users to improve the overall trail experience and increase trail use. This would be particularly beneficial for families, youth, children, disabled and seniors. Paving the TGT trail would also reduce trail maintenance costs in areas related to weed/vegetation control and gravel tread erosion.
